Level 3 Signs Network Agreement with EWE TEL GmbH

Level 3 to Provide Backbone Solution Across Three Markets, Expanding Relationship with EWE TEL

LONDON, September 25, 2006 - Level 3 Communications’ European Markets Division today announced it has signed a new agreement with EWE TEL GmbH to provide network services across Western Europe, expanding its relationship with EWE TEL. Under the terms of the agreement, Level 3 will provide 10GigE LAN PHY wavelength service, a standard enhancement to the Level 3 intercity wavelength service, connecting EWE TEL’s main Internet exchange points in Europe.

EWE TEL GmbH is one of the largest regional carriers in Germany, providing a large share of telecommunications services in northern Germany. As a full service provider, EWE TEL has approximately 300,000 customers, more than 30,000 business customers, and offers services including mobile, private line, dark fiber and other network solutions.

With its 10GigE LAN PHY offering a dedicated Ethernet point-to-point service, Level 3 enables customers to leverage cost-effective and familiar Ethernet technology to build and grow large IP backbones. This service is available across the majority of Level 3’s fiber-based network in the United States and in Europe, including extensions to key metropolitan points of presence.
