Charles C. Miller III to Assume Chairman's Role
BROOMFIELD, Colo., April 17, 2003 - Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:LVLT) announced today that Howard Diamond has stepped down as chairman of the company's Information Services Group. He is succeeded by Charles C. "Buddy" Miller III, Level 3 vice chairman in charge of strategy, corporate development and lines of business.
Level 3 formed the Information Services Group in 2002 following its acquisitions of Software Spectrum, Inc., and CorpSoft, Inc. The combined companies, based in Dallas, distribute business software to large enterprises under the Software Spectrum name. The group also includes Level 3's (i)Structure subsidiary, which provides IT outsourcing services to enterprises throughout North America.
"Howard Diamond has provided strong leadership for us over the past year, guiding the Software Spectrum-Corporate Software integration process and positioning the combined business as one of the true leaders in the information services industry," said James Q. Crowe, Level 3's chief executive officer. "I am pleased that Howard has agreed to continue working with us in a consulting role, which will provide us with the benefit of his counsel as we move forward.
"We have asked Buddy Miller to assume the chairman's role within Information Services because of his extensive experience in both senior management and corporate strategy. We believe the Software Spectrum and Corporate Software acquisitions have already created value for our investors, and that they will deliver long-term benefits to the company as information services and communications continue to converge. Buddy's leadership will be invaluable as we seek to leverage our expanded presence in information services and take advantage of the trends that are reshaping that industry."
Miller currently serves as vice chairman of Level 3, with responsibility for strategy, corporate development and lines of business. Miller will continue with those responsibilities; in addition, he will oversee the operations of both Software Spectrum and (i)Structure. Keith Coogan, chief executive of Software Spectrum, and Mike Jones, chief executive of (i)Structure, will remain in their respective positions and report to Miller.
Miller joined Level 3 in November 2000 following 13 years at BellSouth, where he served in a variety of executive positions, including president of BellSouth International, a $4 billion operating subsidiary.
