Advanced Data Centers to Open this Month
Bringing the Total Number of Markets with Facilities in the U.S. to 43
BROOMFIELD, Colo., December 14, 2000 – Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:LVLT) today announced it will begin offering Internet and communications services in Indianapolis and Sacramento. The company plans to open advanced data centers this month in each market, bringing the total number of markets with facilities in the U.S. to 43.
"We look forward to bringing our advanced infrastructure to these financial and business centers," said Lee Jobe, president, Global Operations for Level 3. "With construction of our U.S. intercity network nearly complete, and as we continue to activate portions of our network, we believe we can introduce a new level of technology and service to communications customers in these metropolitan centers as, over time, we drive down the cost of moving information."
With the addition of these two markets, Level 3 now operates advanced data centers, called Gateways, in 54 markets in the U.S., Europe and Asia. These Gateways serve as portals to the Level 3 Network and provide a secure environment in which communications intensive companies can physically locate their equipment. The facilities also house Level 3's own equipment and offer customers interconnection with the public Internet and other long distance networks.
Level 3 expects to begin offering services in these markets this month. Initially, the services will include the company's (3)Link® Global Transport Services: (3)Link Private Line, (3)Link Dark Fiber and (3)Link Global Wavelengths. Additionally, Level 3 will offer its (3)CrossRoads® Internet Access service in Sacramento in 2001.
Advanced data centers in both of the markets will be connected to Level 3's North American intercity network and globally to its European and Asian networks via Level 3's undersea cable systems. Level 3's continuously upgradeable network features advanced technology that provides high-quality, low-cost services that enable communications intensive businesses to add value and, in turn, deliver their services to end-users including residential customers.
Level 3 enables communications intensive companies to grow more rapidly by providing infrastructure and network services to help them meet increasing demand for e-commerce, streaming audio and video, and many other Web-based services.
