
PATRICIA J. PAOLETTA NAMED VICE PRESIDENT OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS FOR LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS
OMAHA, NEBRASKA, May 24, 1999 – Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: LVLT), today announced that Patricia J. Paoletta has been appointed Vice President of Government Relations. Paoletta is based in Washington, D.C., and will be responsible for advocating procompetitive regulatory and legislative policies at the federal and international level on behalf of Level 3.

Prior to joining Level 3, Paoletta was majority Counsel for the House Commerce Committee where she specialized in providing telecommunications policy and legislative advice to the Chairman and the Members of the House Commerce Committee and the Subcommittee on Telecommunications, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Before she joined the Commerce Committee staff, she worked in the Executive Office of the President where she served as the Director of Telecommunications Trade Policy at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR). At USTR she was responsible for negotiating and enforcing telecommunications trade agreements and providing telecom policy advice. Prior to USTR, Paoletta spent five years at the Federal Communications Commission. Paoletta received her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and was graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
