MICHAEL D. JONES NAMED CIO FOR LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS, INC.
OMAHA, NEBRASKA, December 1, 1998 – Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: LVLT) today announced that Michael D. Jones has been appointed senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO) of the company. Jones' organization, based in the Denver area, is responsible for the development and support of Level 3's financial, customer care and billing, and network management systems worldwide. His organization is also responsible for establishing and operating the internal computing infrastructure, which includes the data centers and internal network.

Prior to joining Level 3, Jones was vice president and CIO for Corporate Express, Inc. in Broomfield, CO. Jones' earlier background includes being director of billing systems for Sprint International, and an associate partner with Andersen Consulting. Jones was graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a degree in accounting and computer science.
